What is Public Interest Law?
Public interest law involves legal work that helps address difficult social issues and attempts to positively affect society as a whole. It can include career options that directly serve underrepresented people or causes, such as public defenders, legal aid organizations, and pro bono work at law firms. Public interest law also encompasses work aimed at achieving change through public policy and legal reform, advocacy on behalf of a group, or ommunity organizing and education. This type of work can take place in nonprofit organizations, public interest law firms, advocacy groups, and government organizations.
